A valid question. I'm used to having to log out and in after reading the Forum entries, but doing it for both Forum and Concepts is proving annoying, especially when both sections are active. Is there any way to get a button in Concepts to mark it as visited? Could it be done independantly from marking the Forum as read, and vice-versa?
planegray on 20:09, 17. Jun, 2009
Great addition, I am just not interested in creating cards at this time. It's more of a power user feature imo. I can live with the extra button but the flashing is annoying.
Mojko on 20:19, 17. Jun, 2009
The new card suggestions notification works the same way as forum. If you logout and right after that login it should be gone. However, I can make it user selectable in settings if it is so disturbing.

Also I plan to change the current icon to something not so aggressive, current picture is just a placeholder.
Chrone on 19:08, 22. Jun, 2009
Great thing, but it lacks some balancing tools, some kind of notes/replays from other players come to mind.

Just a few short 2-3 word suggestions/notes can be placed instead of useless "card name" tab. This notes are to be deleted soon after card author reads them.

Second, concept pile needs some kind of cleaning tool. It can be something like simple rating system, but my suggestion is deleting ALL the concepts (except a few chosen, but not implemented this time) each card update.

P.S. Flashing concept pictogram is really annoying. Red text for forum timestamp too.
lord Alex on 12:36, 23. Jun, 2009
I think too, that you shell reject all concepts which are not good enough to be implemented.
It makes really fun to take a look at the cards of other players, what cards they want to have, and it also makes fun to make own cards. MArcomages becomes better and better...
Sundancer on 17:18, 23. Jun, 2009
I'd really like to rate cards of others.

Let's say one could give a card a rating between 1 and 5 and the average of all players ratings is shown next to the card image in the concepts section.
Like I've said before it would show which cards we'd like to see ingame :)
DPsycho on 17:20, 23. Jun, 2009
I'd like to be able to comment on cards by having each one generate a link to its own topic thread or note page. We don't need to be able to see these comments from the Concepts list, but for any card that is particularly interesting or troublesome, we could click through and see what others have to say regarding it.
JimmyMethod on 04:54, 24. Jun, 2009
Ok, so... I'm really tired of people who suggest cards that are redicioulously over powered, and think they are good cards...

You are either mentally retarded, or don't understand the concept of an 'appropriately powered card'.

Yes, a common card that deals a ton of damage, and also can discard the cards in your hand that you don't want would be awesome. However, you're fucking terrible at life... I'm talking to you, Xenogeist, Fithz Hood(though I will say, a few of your card are decent), Myschly...

Like, I'm not talking about suggesting card that don't cost enough, or something, I'm talking about suggesting card that aren't even conceptually consistent with the game. Please... just stop...
Xenogeist on 05:12, 24. Jun, 2009
Wow, I'm not sure why you're so venomous. I like suggesting cards, its fun. I do my best to make cards that will be balanced and will offer something new to the game.

I try to use other cards already in the game as guides to balancing my cards and I think I do an okay job of that, but I don't worry too much about cost because Mojko will be the decider, the idea is the important thing.

The point is to brainstorm and share ideas. Instead of being a jerk why don't you actually try and address the problems and imbalances you see in my suggestions. Or better yet tell me if I have a good idea that I should try to refine. That's what I dislike about the new Concept section is people can't leave feedback.

Actually, looking over some of your suggestions I see some silly ideas, some imbalances and some cards not "conceptually consistent with the game" as you like to put it. But that's good, that's called brainstorming. Keep it up.
Fithz Hood on 07:34, 24. Jun, 2009
Yeah, I know some of my cards are not good or too powerful, sorry for that. But they are just suggestions waiting to be judged by Mojko and/or the other players. If someone thinks that my suggestions are bad feel free to PM me about those cards (or we can chat in game), I accept suggestions on my suggestions. peace.
Mojko on 07:46, 24. Jun, 2009
All right, time clear things up ;-)

The concept section was intended for any card ideas. It is up to me to filter out the best of them and adjust them as needed. Trust me, to make a good card, which is not overpowered, has nice picture with matching name is a very difficult task. We can't seriously expect people to make such concepts (it would be convenient though ;)).

If you compare some card ideas given by plyers, that were implemented, to their final form, you would see that some cards were changed enormously. Why did I even bother to reference the card suggestion in this case? Because it gave me inspiration.

So almost every card concept is welcome. Of course there are some that I already rejected, I think 3 or so.

What I definitely must do, is to write a template for a card to game manual. This will contain instructions what a card effect can do and what variables (Round, Tower, Wall...) are available. This way we could prevent concepts that are not implementable.

If you suggest a card that I say is unimplementable, please rethink it over and do not ask me to implement is as an exception in the system, nor to "emulate" the effect. MArcomage is a simple card game (compared to MTG for example) that has it's limits. Please keep that in mind.

Card design section is not completed yet I'm planning following:

- expand concept states

Add more states to allow me to distinguish the cards and use state filter properly. Right now we have only 3 states (waiting, rejected and implemented). I want to add "interesting", "picked for implementation" (maybe some more).

- add comments somehow

Either create a new forum section "Card concepts" and each concept will have the option to start a separate discussion in this section via shortcut button from concepts section or implement a comment system in concepts section.

- concept rating - this is a tricky one

If we want something simple for example each player can assign a grade (1 to 5 for example) it is quite not a problem to implement. If we want to ensure that each player can vote only once, it gets complicated (ammount of storage requirements increses). If we want something complicated like rating system in blogs that compute the user vote value from the facts how other users see the current user, then it will be very complicated.

- optimize layout

Show onlt data that is necessary, i.e. remove unneeded, add what is interesting.
marsrover21 on 16:43, 24. Jun, 2009
Sounds great Mojko. Thanks for keeping us all informed!

Re: the voting. Is there away to limit the votes without being so storage intensive? Maybe by logging IP addresses?
FilipeSilva on 17:03, 24. Jun, 2009
Hi Mojko

For the voting system:
If a person could change his own vote:
each card would have to have a "table" with user/vote or the other way around (each player with a "table" with card/vote)
If not it would only the necessary to store in each card the person that already voted.
Does that take to much space? Are you storing the card name + player or could you store Numeric Ids?

I also would suggest that voting would only be allowed for very active users and not for everybody (using the number of games/number of logins or similar).

Notice: each player must not be allowed to vote in their own suggestions
Of course if you make some way to comment each card it would be better...
FilipeSilva on 17:08, 24. Jun, 2009
Sorry but would it be possible to clean the blinking after I visit that concepts page?

Thanks
DPsycho on 19:01, 24. Jun, 2009
I think the simplest way to implement voting would be to have a drop-down list by each card (like when choosing a card mode in the game) where each individual gets to set a value 1-5. They could always go back later and alter it, but each person would have that one rating given to the card and be able to reference it later. (Each newly added concept would default to "*" or something to indicate no vote.)

Alternately, or perhaps additionally, there can be a drop-down list of words describing how we feel about it. "Great, Interesting, OK, Overpowered, Redundant, Underpowered," etc. Of course, if comments for each card are to be implemented, this would be unnecessary.
Myschly on 19:32, 24. Jun, 2009
"Yes, a common card that deals a ton of damage, and also can discard the cards in your hand that you don't want would be awesome. However, you're fucking terrible at life... I'm talking to you [...] Myschly"

Ehm, what are you talking about? You being rude like that I don't mind, because I know the feeling, but seriously. Which card? I've got two commons, Peasant got complaints of being too weak (and was mostly a nostalgic link to HoM&M1), and Equal Loss isn't the perfect discard...

I don't upload just whatever, and I think about the game. I don't want this site to become like MTG became. I mean, after a while, all the old cards were obsolete and sucked, and there was just new stuff and it all got cluttered!

We've got to be very careful to not add too many new things, and although I want some of my ideas through (i e the keyword Token, or as someone else had the same idea with the better name: Chromatic), I think it's good that I don't get everything through.

Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.

I think there should be limits on the amount of cards, maybe 3 a week for beginners, 5 a week for "power users"?
Mojko on 20:35, 24. Jun, 2009
I updated the notification icon for concepts section (press F5).

I also added a description what a card effect can do (restrictions you should follow when creating new card). See game manual ("card template"). I bet you didn't know that when you have a card summon effect you can specify the card that will be summoned the same way as you specifiy filters in the deck section. With this we could make some very interesting cards.
marsrover21 on 21:54, 24. Jun, 2009
Mojiko: also thinking you're going to need a disclaimer against posting copyrighted images. E.g., "the site accepts no responsibility for the images posted by others and will assume that all such images are within the public domain. Should a copyright holder contact the site regarding an image, the site will immediately take such image down." Better to cover your azz with :)
DPsycho on 23:56, 24. Jun, 2009
You didn't like the New Card icon I submitted, eh? I never got a response from you about it in the thread.
Xenogeist on 22:26, 25. Jun, 2009
I like you're "Rapid Erection" card Runningted, funny name :)
