Hi everyone

Sometimes when I browse through the concept cards I see cards that I think are absolutly brilliant but not even interessting. Whenever that happens I'd like to give Mojiko a hint like "here... take this one!". So I thought why not make it possible to vote for a card.

What I have in mind is 1-5 small symbols next to each card ( like stars but must not necessarily be stars :p ) and everyone who sees it can vote once for each card how much he likes it. Just for the Admins to see that the players really like that card and to maybe think twice about implementing it :)

Thats basically it
what do you think ?

ps: I thought we allready had a thread about this but I could'nt find it...
pps: Accidentally opened under support, please move this thread to development :)

Someone did suggest such a feature before, but if (rather, since) it's not in an obviously-titled thread, no one's going to fault you for not searching for it. :)

It might be nice, but if such a feature is too much effort to implement or slows down the forums, I don't think it would be worth the trouble. Any voting system would also require the ability to alter your own vote as cards are modified by their creators, something that isn't necessarily inherent to polling apps.

If you really like a card, comment on it and explain why you like it or why you think the card would make a great addition to the game. This is especially helpful for older cards that may have fallen out of sight. Drawing attention in this way could cause people to give it a second look.

maybe we could try a different approach, a couple players (probably the forum moderators and the administrators) can introduce the card(s) in a deck and play a couple games among them. See if the cards are playable, if a game would be fair using these cards. Ofcourse not all cards will be passed for this test, otherwise there would be too much work, but this could allow for more cards to be marked as "interesting", then they get tested and then if the decks are balanced with the new cards, then apply them to the real game. Thus there will be more cards coming in. I must say i've been playing this game for 2-3 months and i really love it, but with the exception of the last update, there weren't many cards introduced. we are playing for fun, not for money or anything else. So in my oppinion if someone makes a card and then sees it in a game, well he/she will feel some accomplishment and contribution to the whole community and have fun as well. introducing more cards by more players is something discussed widely and i think it should go more than just words :)
again this is my oppinion, i might be wrong, but this testing system will be allowed for more cards to be viewed and thus for more concept cards to be accepted. Also it will help the game evolve further. Let's not forget we are playing a game invented by 3DO almost 10 years ago, and we love it, because we sort of made it something ours (although most of us never contributed anything to it)

I don't think a game is truly fair if you can pick cards your opponent can't.
Sundancer on 12:58, 10. Feb, 2010
No one said anything about that.
I was just suggesting that players should be able to quickly vote for concept cards since not everyone wants to go through the "trouble" of writing something on the forum and with a vote system implemented we would get a wider opinion about concept cards.

You are saying Lord Ornlu is 'No one'?

PS Your suggestion has it's charm, forgot to tell it in my previous post. ;-)
Sundancer on 14:23, 10. Feb, 2010
as far as I get it, he's just suggesting that the admins and mods should have a few test games with implementable cards and if they consider them fair the cards should be implemented.
Progressor on 14:25, 10. Feb, 2010
Ah, internal testing.
Check
Lord Ornlu on 14:46, 10. Feb, 2010
yeah that's what i meant, although on the same time saying that almost all cards should be tested, and not just a few selected ones. A card might seem dull at first but sometimes it can prove to be really good and useful. Besides most cards are created after players feel there's something missing from their decks, so let's see if we can fill it up :)

Testing all concepts would probably be asekd a little too much but just a few... I'd like it and I think this game needs more cards :) Building and testing new decks is what makes this game fun for me :) and we really need a few more playable common cards.

I've always had the impression that Mojko does test the cards as described before letting them go live.
Mojko on 15:56, 10. Feb, 2010
I test all cards before release, but my testing is mostly focused on functionality. I also do the balance testing but I cannot cover everything in given limited time.
Sundancer on 16:12, 10. Feb, 2010
Maybe promote a few activ users or the mods to card beta-testers ?
DPsycho on 18:50, 10. Feb, 2010
I can't help feeling that the net effect of this would be more work for the developers rather than less. In addition to taking the time to build such a test system with its own decks and card pool, each potential card would have to be coded, especially tricky for those with dependent effects. As far as testing them for balancing, a lot of this goes on in our discussion of the cards anyway, complete with people making comparisons to existing cards and theorizing situations in which effects could be used too effectively.

It's not that I dislike the suggestion. I just don't think it would be worth the necessary effort of putting such a thing into play.
