There are cards that put game off balance if you have 2 of them in hand.
Hungry dead are already here. Many new durable/no effect if new cards cannot be introduced due to this issue.

I thought about keyword that will disable chance of picking card if it is already in hand.

"Unique" keyword. Also, it will help with balancing of other cards.

P.S. For more intrigue, it can prohibit picking all "unique" cards, not only the same one. Quite a field for different tactics =)
P.P.S. "No effect if new" can also be transformated into something like "slow" keyword.

Hm, you make a good point.

One could argue that any Durable card should perhaps be programmed to prohibit another of the same card appearing when it is on hand, but since Durable cards tend to be powerful and likely targets for an offensive discard, there are certainly situations where having the card twice effectively protects it from being forcefully removed. (Not Ninja, though. I'm always annoyed when I draw that one twice.)

I like your "Unique" suggestion wherein a card so tagged would prevent any other cards with this keyword from being drawn. It would certainly add another layer of strategy.

Personally I think one of the balancing issues with Durable cards is that you have to take into consideration that you might draw two. Also, by having two, you can protect against Banish.

Well how about a card like this:

Unique (Common) 1BGR
Quick
Stock -1
If you have 2 or more cards with the same name and Durable ability, discard one of these cards

This way you could regulate your Durable cards.
Endovior on 00:46, 12. May, 2009
No, that's not it.

'Unique' is a handicap ability. If you really need to, it's already easy enough to get rid of your own superfluous Durable cards with Militia et al. The point of Unique is to weaken the strategy, not to randomly get rid of your own extra Durables... there just aren't enough Durable cards for Unique to work as a single card (and even if there were, it'd make more sense to use other sorts of discard to deal with them).

how about making the unique keyword like this:

if played, all cards with unique keyword will be discarded.

as an example i give all rare cards this keyword. my enemy got super lucky and drew 3 rares in one turn (master of past, prince of thieves and order of lotus) normally it would now be kinda impossible for me to beat the enemy without a shit load of luck, but since all those cards have the unique keyword, he can only play one.

like this you can get the same card (or the keyword) more than once in hand, but you will loose all the cards, if you play one.

one idea would be to give all those supposedly overpowered cards this keyword and no one will complain anymore^^

Dislike, dislike...

I actually was considering the Unique keyword a long time ago, since I was also inspired by LOTR TCG and it has this mechanics included.

A card with unique keyword could be present only in one instance in your hand. This effects normal drawing, probably special card effects that add cards to your hand would ignore this constraint (like black market for example). However I didn't find this necessary, so the feature wasn't added.

Right now we have the anti-flood protection, that lowers the chance of getting the same cards on hand by half for each card instance. Also now it covers all types of drawing, not just the standard draw. So, still I don't think Unique keyword is needed.

Just one more note to durable cards. Durable cards stays on hand, however this can be also seen as a disadvantage, because you are not getting new cards.

Hi

Unique keyword: cannot have another replica of the card in the hand (at least by draw).
exception: when the selected card pool has only unique cards and all the cards are already in the hand

Following: some Titan cards could have that effect (I thought of this with the titan thread)
some durable rares could have that effect
some powerful cards could have that effect

It that feasible?
Thoughts anyone?
