Imagine the situation
I have Dragon egg and this one cards in hand. If I choose mode 2 playing the Pet Dragon gem production doesn't gain multiplicator x2 from Dragon Egg. Why is that?

The dragon bonus always needs another dragon in hand to take place and have different effects based on the presence of dragon egg in hand. probably you didn't have a second dragon to fullfil the first condition.

Does bonus from Dragon Egg add to Mode 1 played card. In other words will it be x2 or x4?

yes, you can also get a gem production x8 if you use mode 1 triggering Dragon and Alliance effects

'More than meets the eye' is a line used multiple times in the Transformers franchise. Since pet dragon has multiple uses and it does more than it seems at first glance the reference joke was necessary :D
