I was looking was a decent job for a while and I finally found one at IBM. After passing written, aural and practical knowledge tests I got an interview with the dev manager there (in English of course). After a half an hour long conversation we got to agreement, but then he said that there is one more thing.

IMB dislikes open source. If I want to work for them I will have to sign a contract which says that I will not be participating in any open source project in any way. Failure to comply will result in immediate contract termination. And I was like: "Really? Are you really going to tell me what I should do in my free time? I have abundance of corporate BS these days, there is no need to add more." So I politely told him that they should pick a different candidate for this job.

Fortunately, I was able to get a different job now as a developer of Facebook online games. So finally after many years of developing boring custom web applications, I am moving to the developing field of my choice - the computer games. The company that I'm currently working for even shown interest in MArcomage and they could aid this project by providing design and community experience and most importantly some graphics. I will also get a whole new working experience, so I will improve as a developer, which will have a positive effect on MArcomage as well.

My current employer develops free online games and charges only premium services, which is an approach I like. You can check their games if you like, they even support multiple languages.

Emporea and Train station.

Congratulations!

I'm really surprised about IBM. I hold IBM as an enterprise friendly to the open-source movement, especially in Java communities (Eclipse began from IBM), ASF etc. I also thought that IBM supported some linux distro, maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, it's amazing that you've turned them down, I probably wouldn't do it :P

I hope that MArcomage won't be ported exclusively on Facebook and that this standalone version will remain. I won't be rejoining *evil* Facebook :P

Thanks ;-)

Well, I have some rules regarding jobs I take. For example I wouldn't work directly for Micro$oft or any company that is its official parter in the field of software usage (I already turned down some job offers like that in the past).

I plan to do some Facebook integration, but not in a way that MArcomage would be ported into Facebook. MArcomage will remain standalone. I merely plan to use some social plugins that Facebook offers.

Congratulation Mojko, you rock.
Really, you were too cool rejecting IBM's job.
I can't wait to see how Marcomage will improove if it will be really supported by your new company.
I hope it will not lose its community oriented style (I love the conceept's page)

After a year of development, the game I'm working on was released yesterday (same day as Diablo 3 release). You can check it out, but please note that it's a Facebook game so don't expect any challenging game mechanics.

Serious Sam meets Bob the Builder. I am at the task to collect the robot pieces but ran out of energy. Have to wait an hour or so :D
Damalycus on 10:52, 16. May, 2012
I guess I'll have to check it out as much as I dislike to sign up for facebook.

But whole year? Damn that's long. I'm currently making a game myself, and so far It took me 2 months already. A year with a team sounds kinda discouraging for me.

Update: Did not turn out so well for me, cause diggy is endlessly loading/drawing mine plan.
Mojko on 13:06, 16. May, 2012
Well, the game still has some issues.
andi on 14:11, 16. May, 2012
I advanced a bit, looking for the Anubis parts now. I must say I like it quite a lot and think it has some nice varieties.
Spoon on 10:09, 18. May, 2012
Fun little game, got looking for the Anubis's stone before I ran out of energy :)

Congrats broham! You deserve it, this site has been kickass since I first joined.

Btw, awesome for tablet-play 1v1 IRL

I've been playing this game for a while and enjoying it.

The only problem I've had has been with the map: It really isn't obvious you have to click the Globe/Anubis/Someone else in bottom left in order to change the locations displayed.

No big problem there, but if you're looking for feedback..
Thanks for (another) enjoyable game :)
