Can't you find some kind of independent artwork studio there in Slovakia to make some imagery in order not to have such kind of things in the future?

Well, I would really like that. And not for cards only, I would like to add pictures in the novels section as well. However, I don't know anyone who could do it for free.

Like dimitris said though, we could all donate for it. If you approach someone and ask them a price, we can have a poll as a community as to whether we would like to donate 2-3 dollars each or not to have our own card pictures made. I would be willing to donate as well, as long as the price is reasonable and perhaps if it's possible have the person support us on drawing implemented concept cards' images.

I am in a bit of image design myself, but I can't really do figures and beasts well. I can deliver when the image is an abstract picture though (e.g. like Flare Attack or Purifying Fire)

There are image search engines like tineye.com
I tried it for fun with the picture of Barbarian Den http://arcomage.netvor.sk/?location=Concepts_details&current_concept=1456
and it promptly found the source of the picture

Just noticed the card Murderer has Drizzt Do'Urden depicted. I'm rather surprised they didn't mention that card.

Oh, tineye.com is a pretty cool thing to have, thank you for the link!

All mentioned cards now have new pictures. Big thanks to all players who submitted new card pictures ;-)

Some more ideas of ways to get images that aren't copyright infringing:

- Basically anything published before 1923 is public domain. I'm sure there are lots of paintings, illustrations, drawings, etc. that we could use.
- Copyleft photographs are often easier to obtain than drawings, but with the right set of photoshop filters and editing, they can be made to look like drawings.
- Maybe we can borrow artwork from other open source games? Right now I'm playing a GPL-licensed game called Heroes of Wesnoth (highly recommended) and it has a lot of really gorgeous character art which is presumably copyleft.

Good points. Taking pictures from other open source projects would be fine I guess. Transforming normal images to drawings is a thing I don't know how to do yet, but I could work on that as well ;-)

Monster slayer, http://arcomage.netvor.sk/?location=Cards_details&card=409, is using artwork from commercial game King's Bounty: The Legend. It's their main theme pic.

Not that I care much, It looks quite fitting to this card.
Although my note is irrelevant to whole WoTC deal.

Thanks for reporting, I will have to find another picture then.

Nice ;-) Thanks.

Pixie's art is also cover art from an installment in that series, King's Bounty: Crossworlds.

That game was made by a Russian developer team. I think it would be generally ok with them, cause this site is non-profit open source project.
Also - in Russia there is less attention to these kind of infringements. No one cares much like WoTC or GamesWorkshop.

Maybe we should keep them while whistle is not blown? :) That was my point in that previous post.

Speaking of which i'm pretty sure the cultists pic is a picture of grey knights from warhammer 40000 dawn of war.

And Witcher's image is from.... The Witcher :P

Gate Guardian's image is from the album "In Thy Power" by the band Cryonic Temple. Don't know if they mind though, as they are a relatively small band
