Just an idea, but I thought having a little comments section for replays might be quite a cool little feature, especially with the "Cool wins" thread. I'd imagine it would be just like the chat box in a game, only anyone can view and create comments. I know I've found myself wanting to leave my two cents on some replays, at least.

I think this is an excellent suggestion. I would use such a feature. Of course, it should be moderated to make sure there isn't ever any trash talking.

Maybe "trash talking" means something different in my area of the world, but among my friends it's a good thing, and not the kind of thing you'd expect to be moderated out.

Trash talking among friends is far different from the kind of abusive words that can be exchanged after online games between relatively anonymous people. It's a particular problem with online first-person-shooters.

Not that I would expect anything like that with the friendly bunch we have here, but if the goal of the website is to expand, you never know what kind of people may pass through. (I don't think any of the people we have now would respond to losing a match by spouting negative blatherskite, it would just be as a precaution.)

allow the moderators to see all new appearing comments in a list, if one of them is insulting then ban the user's IP address for a few days, or forever, depending on the severity of what they said

With regard to trash talking, we could make it so the players involved can opt to disable comments on specific replays, or to hide/delete their own replays, or even to be able to moderate (and remove abuse) their own replays. Sounds good, no?

Implemented in r1242. Changes will be applied in the Christmas update.
