I find the new effect of cleansing, filling your (undead) hand with utterly useless cards, and doing damage to your tower too strong.
viperio on 09:54, 29. Dec, 2008
Perhaps you're right. Doing tower damage was a good effect for a Common card (from 3 to 12 direct Tower damage) but the discard had almost no effect. The Undead deck owner would just receive 4 new cards from his/her deck and still smack you silly.

Purified ash is better for the one playing against the Undead deck, but since it's a Common card I'd say that the tower damage can be considered unnecessary.

Also, since Cleansing is a Common card and can easily take care of 4 (!) powerful Undead cards I'd say that it should affect only 3 or 2 cards. For example, the other 2 types of very dangerous cards (Legend and Dragon) can now be discarded by a respective Uncommon card which is OK (at least from my viewpoint) - you discard a Rare/Uncommon card with an Uncommon card.

Undead-based decks can bring a lot of strong cards (since most of them are Uncommon) as opposed to Legend or Dragon-using decks so a common Undead discarding card looks OK.

So, my suggestion here is to make Cleansing do the following:

Discard up to 3 random Undead cards from enemy hand. Replace discarded cards with Purified Ash.

So my friend and you, the other players, does this seem OK to you?
Progressor on 11:25, 29. Dec, 2008
It's still very conditional. I wouldn't put it in my deck, since it will simply clog my hand against non-undead decks. Undead decks aren't as common as they used to be.

Viperio: Your first statement is incorrect (the undead player no longer receives cards from his / her deck after cleansing), as you appear to unconsciously realize later in your post. ;-)
viperio on 11:43, 29. Dec, 2008
Ops - sorry about that. I was referring to the situation when Cleanse had it's old effect.
dindon on 16:13, 6. Sep, 2010
This is one of my least favourite cards in the game. It's far too specialized. Either you're up against an undead deck, and it's so powerful that your opponent has almost no chance of winning, or you're up against a non-undead deck and it's completely useless. In either case, it's imbalanced and not much fun.

(And sure, you might argue that there's a middle ground where your opponent has a deck with just a few undead cards, like undead cavalry or vampire or whatever. Cleansing isn't really much use in this case, since if you're playing a holy deck, you can probably dust those lone cards with just the keyword effect. Cleansing shines against a deck that is heavily undead.)

I think it's now totally overpowered.
dimitris on 07:47, 13. Sep, 2010
I don't think it's too overpowered. It is quite irritating, yes, but not as much irritating as flare attack is.

You must see context, flare attack is usable only in burning deck, and burning deck as a whole really isn't overpowered with it. And besides that, flare attack costs defacto 10 resources. Cleansing's cost is half and it's now absolutely universal card, not just to holy decks and it's very, very overpowered. It's effect can be compared maybe to Elemental storm, but it's uncommon and costs 3 more gems...
dimitris on 11:15, 13. Sep, 2010
There's no point in using Cleansing outside a holy deck. It has a risk, as it can give Cleansing (it's a common holy card) to your opponent and so he can play it back to you and ruin your own hand...

On the other hand flare attack is very powerful paired with Phoenix.

It's not true. Many players added it to their decks...

Phoenix is powerful without flare attack as well ;)
jbryant3 on 12:29, 13. Sep, 2010
I agree that Cleansing is very powerful now, perhaps too powerful. I suggest that it only replace enemy's non-Holy common cards with common Holy cards instead of it's current effect.
Lord Ornlu on 12:29, 13. Sep, 2010
I agree with Demetris, it's a good way to confuse your opponent and dismantle their strategy, but this card will give the enemy 3 holy cards which will probably help him get back on his feet. On the other hand, Flare Attack totally destroys the opponent for a couple of turns even if you don't use Phoenix afterwards (or Keeper of Secrets). Maybe we should apply something similar to Cleansing. It used to be able to replace 4 Undead cards from enemy's hand with Purified Ashes. Maybe now we should restore that effect but not make it that strong as the previous overpowered status. Maybe we can allow it to replace 2 random common non-Holy cards from enemy's hand with Purified Ashes? Or maybe 1 selected non-rare non-Holy card from enemy's hand.

I think all of these variants are reasonable. Second choice looks as the best for me...
dimitris on 12:46, 13. Sep, 2010
I also agree with Lord Ornlu's suggestion about replacing up to two common non-holy cards with Purified Ashes.
Mojko on 14:17, 14. Sep, 2010
I propose these two changes (either one or combination of both):

1 - replace "Replaces up to 3 random non-rare cards" with "Replaces up to 3 random common cards"

2 - make the number of replaced cards dependent on number of Holy cards in hand (for example up to N, where N = number of holy cards in hand, max 4).
jbryant3 on 14:19, 14. Sep, 2010
I like a combination of both: "Replaces enemy non-Holy common cards up to the number of Holy cards in hand (max 4)."
dimitris on 15:03, 14. Sep, 2010
Yes, this will intensify the need to put more holy cards on decks with cleansing.
dindon on 17:21, 14. Sep, 2010
I had no idea people considered this card overpowered now. I've played lots of games since the last update, and I haven't had it used against me once...
DPsycho on 18:37, 14. Sep, 2010
I've had it used on me in half the games since the update. Only once, however, has it effectively spoiled my plan for the next turn.
Lord Ornlu on 22:59, 14. Sep, 2010
It's not that the card is overpowered. The card is actually extremely underpowered, whereas before its change, it was extremely overpowered against Undead but useless against anything else.

I like the idea Mojko and jbryant3 proposed but still it gives Holy cards to the enemy, which can prove quite useful to him, so there would be no use in putting this card in any deck. If you want this card to be useful, in my oppinion, it should at least damage the opponent a bit, not benefit them. That's why I proposed to restore the Purified Ashes effect, but to limit the number of replacements it does and widen it to all cards (instead of just Undead)
