As a new moderator, my thoughts concerning my role are as follows. This is what can be expected of me.
I'll probably never delete someone else's post. That is, I hope I never have to. Things can become heated and argumentative, but as long as people are trying to present facts or opinions and not degrading to spiteful insults or utter nonsense, I'll likely only give reminders to stay on topic or move things to a new thread if a worthwhile conversation has emerged. In fact, I encourage conversations covering or breaking into multiple topics. The more we converse openly, the better we can understand one another and improve our community as well as, of course, the game we've all come to love.
Things I would not tolerate are hateful insults, racism, extreme vulgarity, threats of actual harm, and any other behavior that could be clearly classified as trying to provoke a fight. Any such posts would disappear under my watch. With the intelligent and understanding people we have on this site, I expect that this will never be an issue.
If anyone deems a post to be offensive in any way, feel free to message me and I'll give it a second look. With visitors from several countries, we might not always be mindful of what could (intentionally or otherwise) be upsetting to someone.
I will never make a change to anyone else's post or thread without making such alterations clear. Branched topics will have notes appended to them and any altered text will include a note explaining what I did and why.
