It would be great if you would add two more pieces of information.

No worry! they are easy tasks! ;)

Total Resources: The sum of bricks, gems and recruits.
Very useful for resource accumulators etc.

Total Hit Points: The sum of tower and wall
I find that I often need to calculate the total. It is particularly useful for destructors.

Last Change: Show what is changed last time.
For example,
5 (+7) Recruits
Tower: 20 (-10)
Wall: 0 (-15)
It becomes more important after the implementation of new keyword system.

Would be nice indeed, especially the resource part, since you have to add 3 (!) whole numbers. :-P.

While your at it, make a display for total production per turn too.
DPsycho on 00:56, 6. Aug, 2008
I personally feel that I'd prefer not to have that much clutter unless it were set away from the play area. Adding the numbers isn't very difficult, and I'd rather see the suggestion to show the total change caused by the last turn implemented first. When a chain of cards has reduced a wall to zero, it's hard to determine whether charge cards carried their effects or if keywords procced.
amaster on 15:49, 6. Aug, 2008
It's easy to locate the 2 pieces of info.

24 bricks
12 Gems
10 Recruits
46 Resources

Tower: 20
Wall: 30
Total: 50

I think it looks nice and shouldn't be too messy.
DPsycho on 01:15, 7. Aug, 2008
Will you be suggesting next that the game should tell you before playing a card what your opponent's totals will be once played? What's wrong with leaving simple math up to the player, really?

If such a feature as automatic totaling is ever implemented, I'd hope for it to be possible to disable it in personal settings. I don't want to feel coddled by the game.

> What's wrong with leaving simple math up to the player, really?

Well some people are playing at work. If someone is aiming at resource accumulation, we need to add the numbers every once and then, and so on. Annoying.

If I play online Monopoly, I prefer the computer calculating the totals for me. Do you think the game becomes more strategic simply if you can do the math yourself?

The same concepts applies. You seem to feel as if the game is telling you how to play the game (so you refuse to see this info ready for all players). The change simply makes the info easily accessible without the need of doing the math every turn repetitively. Everyone with primary edu levels can do. It won't take the "tactic part" away because of this.
amaster on 13:15, 8. Aug, 2008
Even if my opponent has the totals info ready while I'm not, I'm just slightly inconvenient. But the opponent won't become stronger and better simply due to this.

You may even suggest hiding more info (eg no more color change if the numbers change, hide the production numbers as everyone knows it starts at 3, blah blah...), but such kinds of tracking-recording-calculating play is not challenging/interesting at all.

By the way I usually play only at free time so I can do the math myself. The current situation it favours me. ;)

> You may even suggest hiding more info (eg no more color change if the numbers change

Um, no, actually. If you would reread my post, you'd see that I support the exact opposite. I want to be able to see the amount of the changes, and, as I stated, I'd rather see that added before something as unnecessary as an extra value showing the sum of two numbers right next to it.

I also didn't say anything about anyone having unfair advantage. You're arguing against points no one made and it doesn't help anything. I don't mind disagreement, but only so long as it corresponds to the points I've actually stated.

Finally, what does Monopoly have to do with anything? The only numerical value changing drastically each turn is dollars, so of course the game sums it for you. I don't see how that compares, let alone how else it would be handled.

You said:
1) prefer not to have that much clutter
2) but want to see the amount of the changes (so easy to see how keywords procced...)
3) but don't want to see the totals
4) argue what's wrong with leaving math up to player?

"Totals" only add 2 info but you think it's too much clutter.
"Changes" adds 5 info but you don't think it's too much clutter. XoX

Both info can be found if you keep track of it.
u want the game shows the changes but u don't say "what's wrong with leaving math up to player". You can always open 2 tabs to keep track of "before and "after" easily.
But u want other players to keep calculating totals every turn on resources etc. themselves and u argue "what's wrong with leaving math up to player". XoX

After all it's convenient. Your "changes" suggestion is great. I like it too. But I think "totals" add convenience to other people (altho I don't need much), esp when they play at work.
DPsycho on 15:10, 10. Aug, 2008
It actually wasn't my suggestion. Someone else asked for it in another thread. I wish I could take credit for it, though. =)

My point is that it's not always possible to tell how much change occurred, especially when someone uses Swift cards and keyword effects are invisible. Keeping two tabs open isn't possible when playing someone from another time zone and you're powering down your computer between infrequent turns. On the other hand, totals are very easy to determine at a glance at any time.

I suppose what it comes down to, in the end, is that one addition would be useful for slow games and the other one for fast games.

I still think showing totals is unnecessary in the long run. It's simply my personal opinion and preference and unlikely to change.
Mojko on 23:41, 14. Aug, 2008
I think that showing such information is not always useful. Showing wall + tower helps you only when calculating against a card with standard attack.

Also showing total sum of resources is useless in most cases (only all elemental attack, water elemental and resource victory can use it).

I always try to show only the information the player needs. These derived attributes are not necessary for most cases. That's why if I would add them, then only as an optional display feature (selectable in settings section).
Kimaira on 23:36, 23. Dec, 2009
To show the previous stat for:
Tower
Wall
...

e.g. Wall 30 (35) ---- meaning, currently the wall is 30 but it was 35 in last round.

maybe same for resources? Color is showing only if it was + or -.
Mojko on 09:44, 24. Dec, 2009
It's not a problem to do this from the implementation view, since these changes are calculated anyway (because of the color information). However, the question is, if it's really necessary. You can see what card were played in the card history part in the center of the screen.

I will try to make a prototype and we'll see...
Chrone on 09:52, 24. Dec, 2009
I think game log module will be more helpful tool that will give requiered information and not bring excess of info to main game interface

As for additional info, maybe additional closeable window may be introduced.
Mojko on 11:27, 24. Dec, 2009
This is my proposal of the solution:

Lord Ornlu on 13:17, 24. Dec, 2009
this is a very good design of the idea.

We could also add a log below the chat box (i.e. an extra box) where it would read for each round

"Player A plays Hungry Dead and Player B loses -5 wall and suffers 12 attack"

This log would be useful for repairing one's strategy. Also the log could be saved (like the battle report option) for the user's use.
Chrone on 15:40, 24. Dec, 2009
Nice realisation, but i have three things to say:

First of all, i would like to see how much tokens i will receive per playing card. It is the most complicated math for the least significant effect in game.

Secondary, many people will make use of additional window with summary info: total tower+wall, total resources and so on.

And last one - 1.3 Mb screenshots are bit too heavy imo =)

Lord Ornlu on 18:51, 25. Dec, 2009
nice update :)

can we still keep the yellow and green colours that used to appear before when losing or gaining?

I know it seems like asking too much, but it's better to see if smth was lost or gained.
Chrone on 19:14, 25. Dec, 2009
I think color info is still to be shown.
