I liked the old Unholy Sacrifice side effect. I vote to return it. Undead cards are very expensive (see, for example, Undead Host) so sacrificing makes sense to build up to those resources (or getting rid of one to play another).

Instead, put the new Pillage side effect on the barbarians. I think that makes more sense (and is more useful) than the bonus wall damage.

The Undead effect was changed because it was inconsistent with the card engine. Keyword side-effects are not allowed to discard cards from player's hand, because then the discard pile engine can get confused. So, you can suggest a new side-effect for the Undead, but it must hold this limitation.

Ok. Then maybe Undead can just give resources based on the card played or for the type of undead in hand. Maybe call it dark ritual or something.

For example:
Stock +5/10/15 based on the card played
or
Stock +1/+2/+3 for each common/uncommon/rare in hand

Undead cards are overall really expensive, so I think resources would be best for them. Plus, make the counter gain low enough so you can't splash undead.

Another suggestion for undead side-effect:
Eternal Servitude - returns the cost (or maybe partial cost) of the last undead card played.
dindon on 05:18, 16. Nov, 2009
That'd be kind of boring since the unliving side effect already does the same thing.
Sylonus on 07:13, 16. Nov, 2009
And soldiers do it as well.

Then I have some suggestions for Unliving and Soldier side-effects:
Unliving - Reconstruction: Adds wall and tower based on card played (3-C, 5-U, 10-R)
Soldier - Battle Experience: Upgrades the rarity of 3 random soldier cards

Since this topic encompasses both Undead and Barbarians, I'll follow it:
Undead: Does anyone play this besides me? I never see them. If so, what are your thoughts on the Eternal Servitude?
Barbarian: This should become more like Aqua and do additional damage after every Barbarian played (if the previous one was a Barbarian). I'm thinking 1/2/5 damage to enemy tower and wall. Thoughts?
Progressor on 22:00, 17. Mar, 2010
I think current Barbarian effects suits them fine. Many Barbarians are also focused on wall destruction.

As for Undead:
I started playing them again after I recently got a new Deck slot. The effect is okay (plane cost-return is conceptually boring, though), but not very frequent. But that's fine to, since Undead used to have a reputation being to strong. (Id say they're just specialised in big chunks of damage for high prices.)

PS Im still in favour of mirroring Holy's keyword effect, creating a useless card like 'Rotten meat' (+1 Recruit if Undead on hand) or something.
It would make Good vs Evil an epic battle again, instead of a Good wins by definition.
jbryant3 on 22:33, 17. Mar, 2010
I wouldn't mind the "Rotten meat" effect (or Zombie would be interesting too), but I think the Barbarians don't need the extra wall damage since they do through it like butter already. Tower damage or stock based on damage done would really suit them well. Besides, how many barbarian decks are out there now? I mostly play against unliving, legends, and mages.

I agree with jbryant. I used Undead for sometime, although now im trying out other decks. It should give a resource boost like the old effect, in order to make the cards playable. True, Undead cards are very powerful, but without the keyword effect, they are pretty much weakened. In fact anyone who would go for an Undead strategy before, will just use Soldier decks now, which have the next best damage after Undead decks and will give a boost to recruits once tokens reach 100.

My suggestion is to give Undead the chance of countering the Holy effect, like Progressor said, but instead if there is a Purified Ashes in hand then discard it and give stock +1, +2 or +4, depending on played card rarity. Otherwise, next card will be a non-common Undead and stock +1

I tested the undead and they seem quite powerful. Their current keyword effect is nice, since they have many high cost cards. The corpses behemoth + emissary can do vast amount of damage.
