Player pool an issue these days it seems. This would help alleviate that. Standardize the game modes so that there aren't as many options. I don't see why anyone would want to play unhidden cards mode, or short mode (tower deck mode).

Short mode can go as well, because regardless of what mode you play the games can last days/weeks.

From someone who's played as much as anybody, and having returned to this game after a few years - a overhaul is needed in matchmaking.
Lord_Earthfire on 22:48, 22. Oct, 2015
Well, in fact, just no.

Its your personal preference to take hidden, long mode. Which is fine in my eyes. To just say "Well, noone plays this mode anyway" is just a wrong and ignorant statement.

In fact, the non-hidden short games are the far most strategic-dense games this can feature. The longer games go, the more individual decisions are negletable and the more its about the deckbuilding.

Of course you will loose with a more diverse deck against a tower build or a rush deck in short mode, since they are far better in achieving a specific goal. But in these games, you need more to plan your turns in order to acheve victory.
In long games, most time it doesn't count if you win within 2 or 4 rounds, since its far more rare and high-impact uncommon driven. In short mode, its a race and its far more important. I loved the matchups with my titan deck in short mode against tower decks where i had 2 parts left and my opponent was already at 75 tower.

And seriously, what modes are there?
There is just:
-Short or long mode
-hidden or non-hidden mode
There are just 4 different mode-constellations, and each one favors different decks just by their nature.

MArcomage is a more Sandbox-like game where you can pick your deck (And there are many variaties of decks) and choose from some (In my oppinion to few) options which game you like to play.I see always someplayers which open non-hidden games or short games because they like the Meta in this mode.

And really, as far as i can remember when i registred here, at the beginning there was only short, non-hidden mode. And rush- and building decks where just as powerfull as they are now. I was quite shocked when i played to Arcomage on MM8 again and registered how fast it was over. And i suppose it was the time you registered before long mode entered the scene. Some has changed, but the core remained as a whole. That you can choose your decks, adjust it to a gamplay you like, and go for it. Now, you can even adjust your deck to a game mode you like, which even leads to more differentiated decisions.
dimitris on 23:29, 22. Oct, 2015
HUGE NO. This is indisputable. Remove non-hidden mode and you can as well remove my account then...

Why non-hidden mode you say?
Two main reasons:

- Far sight
- More strategic and fun playing.

On the contrary, I would argue that more modes would be welcome e.g. a "without-rare-cards" mode (or else true-long mode).
sillenia on 07:51, 23. Oct, 2015
I do also prefere hidden long games, but saying "lets stop the other modes" sounds very unreasonable to me. I find it quite nice that people have some choise...And indeed, people playing other modes do so, because they like them ... how about them deciding to stop the long hidden mode?

if you think the game needs more players - make some noise about the game, let more people know ...

You can see the stats in the statistics page (other statiscs button):
Hidden cards: 51,24%
thus Non Hidden has 48,16%.I don't think it needs to be deleted

non-hidden is the way the game is born, I play mostly in this way.

I have to say that short mode (that was the original one) is less intresting because of tower decks.
but it has a sound 55,43% stats. Personally I rather play in long mode

I wouldn't mind a very long mode with max tower at 200 or even at 250.

Also a mode without a limit at the maximum size of the decks (or doubled size decks) could be funny. there are always cards I want to put in my decks(mostly uncommons) but I can't... Give me more space!

I think these stats do the math since the beginning of time, so the numbers might be somewhat inflated for non-hidden and short mode. Having said that I think that the usage of both these modes is still rather high, and certainly not below the point that would, maybe, justify their removal. About maybe 1/3 to 1/5 games are non-hidden or short mode. You can tell that by looking at the replay section and calculating stats of say the last 5 days.

I once had that crazy idea of a deck-less game mode, where both players do not have a deck and can simply draw any card from the full card pool. Completely chaotic. :)

They aren't. The statistics weren't in place until a long while after the site began.

In other news, this topic/demand seems entirely pointless at best and obnoxiously entitled at worst. The "I don't like it so no one should be allowed to enjoy it" argument reeks of the majority of US politics arguments of the past few years, and I'd really rather not see anything like that in our happy community.
Glizorkulblorkul on 01:41, 24. Oct, 2015
Show us the user usage stats while youre at it then. It's motherflipping 2015, there are a billion things people can do besides arcomage. Do you guys even talk to new users? They have no idea what theyre doing, and most probably only last a day or two.

Oh well, its your mess. I'll just keep having fun embarassing everyone foolish enough to play with me
sillenia on 08:46, 24. Oct, 2015
lol, you do have continuity, i give you that :D
but calling this a mess is a bit over the top, wouldn't you agree?
plus you changed topic here - originaly it was about you not liking the shord and the non-hidden modes and wanting to remove them for this reason
as far as i understand this is an open source product, so if you feel you can do it better i am sure you can set up your own server, for free ... and by doing stuff better than the "mess" here get all the users to run to you ...

And how does removing modes will help this? wtf is this a trolling thread?

If you want to be an altruist and help new users learn the game, delete all your super awesome decks and play games with a starter deck against them.
Lord_Earthfire on 12:52, 24. Oct, 2015
Well, you're right that the game can be complicated at times. But then you would rather think about removing something like keywords etc, which is just as much embarasing.

When you have a high competition around the internet, you have to think about what you give the players above the other games.
The complexity of MArcomage is the main selling point for the game. If we would cut down the complexity of the game, the players, included me, could also switch to something like hearthstone for example.

You would get new players for sure, but they would not stay for long. Thats the progress of casualisation of games. I love it that there are still some games which toss the player into a new enviroment and look at him scramble for any help. Thats the reason why games like dungeon crawler stone soup, i wanna be the guy, dwarf fortress and others have so much popularity. Although these games are a hell to learn, these games offers so much that it got a die-hard-community.

It's the same that happens with the new-world-order in Magic the gathering. The sets get dumbed down because it "isn't fun" (Oh, how i would like to see Mark Rosewater and others to just leave WOTC, just because they imagine that their thinking of what is fun and whats not is omnipresent for the community). Well, the comunity has grown since, but with card games like Black/white or Heartstone rising, they will soon see a huge loss of players. Because they disregard their best strenght, the complexity of deck building and the game, and because of this they try to compete for the casual players with games like Yugioh and Hearthstone. And thats a loosing fight for sure.

And i would predict the same if we try to remove the complexity of the game. Some new players would join, but they just leave faster, because you already said, there are so much other things to do around the internet that stick to their values.

Worse. The thread of a person too far up their own backside to understand other people have different priorities than they do.

Don't bother with them. MeCho can at least be talked to. This is a person I have had a 2 on 2 with, who challenged me a day after, and screamed SRY into the chatbox when I lost to a deck he knew would beat the one I chose against him. He takes PRIDE in how he 'embarrasses' everyone he plays with, in the textbook example of a humblebrag of all possibilities. "How tragic, I have to beat everyone and make them feel bad, because YOU are such unreasonable people who don't clean up their own mess!" When they read my post, they will no doubt file me as a sore loser, call my observation ad hominem, or a miscellaneous breakdown. Me, I will just play with sillenia every day as always. We have stupid banter, high-brow jokes, I lose most of the time, and always have a great one.

And they don't. I mean, they might have a great time, but they sure presume the loser doesn't. They make the game a competition you have to be 'embarrassed' for when you lose. For what? Ambition? For a browser game? I hope I misread them here. No one should have priorities THAT bad.

They don't care to have a friendly game or even a friendly talk. They are just an insecure little dipshit who throws a fit from just a glimpse of a different worldview than theirs. They consider you stupid and shortsighted since you didn't approve of their wonderful little idea the first time they opened their mouth and crap fell out.

It's not even a bad idea, you know? For another audience, their plan might just work! But they can't believe there can be more than ONE good idea to solve a problem, and certainly not one they didn't have. And they might just be great people otherwise! They could work at a homeless shelter below living wage for all we know! But they act horrible here.

They honestly one hundred percent think other game modes are a waste of space. I didn't comment until they piled up more evidence than a cartload for the fact until I pointed out. Better to let them dig their own hole when they are so eager to.

You better leave the thread before you waste more time on him. He's the one who has to change, not the game or you:/

Lord_Earthfire on 17:54, 24. Oct, 2015
@Zaton: i just wanted to say that i like your direct, honest way you tell the people what you think about them :D

And you're right for it. We have here around 10 people who brought arguments against this change, possible consuming a good amount of time. And from the creator of the tread just came no single more argument to support his point of view.

But i like treads like this because you can alsways see what other players think about the game. (Not the ones who created the topic...) And as far as i see, this even supports that the players want to have the decision, even some support the implementation of a very long mode.

Directness and passion can be key to a successful and fulfilled life<3 And they are always welcome to change for the better and admit a mistakeo.o MeCho has made progress there, and we always will. Humanity is always one step back, two steps forward~

You are right. Let's turn the conversation around and bring more ideas to the table:3

+1

Let's solve the root cause of this problem by coming up with ways to attract more players.
MeCho on 20:21, 8. Nov, 2015
The problem is the game advertises nowhere nobody knows about this game and new players only come from existing players and i would not be here if not for GreatEmerald so kudos to him and since existing player community is so small the recruitment of new players is also very thin but surely this game deserves to be played by more players for me it is so much better then WOW now i know that the two games cannot be properly compared as one is a trading card game and another is a MMORPG but still WOW has like a million times more players being the inferior game which is quite sad for me
