This behavior was noted with Arthoria the Saber as demonstrated in this replay.

The text for Legend reads that there must be a Rare card in hand except for self, but Arthoria is able to select a different card position to replace with itself. This triggers Legend as the card is both played and newly inserted into the hand.

We need to either correct Legend's functionality or reword the description to match the outcome in this case. (I haven't checked to see if there are other persistent Rare Legends presently in the game.)

Now that I've linked the card, I see that this behavior was discussed there when the Legend keyword was added to it. Still, if this behavior is intended, the keyword description should reflect it.

Oh, so the confusion is because the other rare, despite being summoned before the step that checks Keywords, is a duplicate of the triggering rare?

Edit: Or maybe it's about how the game's "Order of Operations" isn't exactly easy to remember, and all the games various descriptions should be tweaked slightly to imply the order even if the player can't remember the one in the manual?

Yeah, the confusion is that the text suggests that there has to be a DIFFERENT rare card when, in fact, the game is checking for any rare "in a different position" than the played card.

I think the original intention was simply to ignore the played card instance. So "different" actually meant "different card instance". I'll see what I can do.

Right now, this is a general behavior with self-replacing keyword cards. For example, if rogue is the only brigand card in your hand and you play it to replace another card, you will gain 20 brigand tokens instead of 10 because the token gain counts the played card and the new copy of the brigand card that was created. I, for one, definitely find this behavior counter-intuitive.

This has come up before in other contexts as well. I had a similar post regarding token gain (https://arcomage.net/?location=Forum_thread&current_thread=2894&thread_current_page=0).
