So cute.
But I think this could bring some priority problem.
let's see: if it's the only rare in hand it will discard himself and next card will be a rare.
if there are more rares it could discard itself anyway summoning a rare in its position.
And if the previous card was a non-common illusion than the summoned rare will be replaced by a rare from enemy hand.
is that the way you wanted it to work?

I'd suggest to redesign it into something like:

Select a card in hand
If selected card was rare, replace it with Cheshire
Else replace it with a rare

I assumed that the card had you selecting which position to act upon. To clarify, just change "Replace rare" to "Replace selected rare" If that wasn't the intention, "Replace random rare"

This card runs into the same balance problems as the recently-suggested Rare Durable Illusion. Being persistent and so inexpensive makes it arguably too easy to trigger the Illusion keyword, and doing that in combination with this card's effect lets you cycle through Rares with ease. I'd suggest increasing the cost or imposing a penalty for replacing a Rare not from your deck. (I wouldn't remove Illusion, though that would be a simple fix, since the Cheshire Cat is practically the embodiment of Illusions.)

about being only rare in hand - i think it should be obvious he cannot affect himself
about triggering illusion - yeah it's a pain in the ass and i'll wrap my head around this better

about NG_Beholder's simplification - it really would work almost as intended, but not close enough. I want it to be more of a durable veteran militia, than persistent illusion trigger.

and of course removing keyword would solve a lot of thing, but yes again - Cheshire IS an illusion.

One of the solution is make him replace other illusion cards with some effect, but I want him to be universal, and not suited only for illusion decks.

Hm. I like it. Interesting, unique, and doesn't seem exploitable.
