Yes, achievements are a good thing for a game (did I really just say that? Can't believe in that...) because they are forcing to use something new and interesting - new decks, new cards, new tactics. Same with awards that used to be previous "achievements" system.
But in my opinion, existing system doesn't work very well for it. There are several reasons why.
1. Most achievements are related to awards, and rest of that are simple counters - you don't need to build a deck to play some rares or attack your opponent. And some of award achievements too (Gentle touch, for example). The most creative achievement is Adventurer/Explorer/Vanguard, the others aren't nearly as creative as they should be.
2. Awards aren't equal. For example: bigbiger has 1153 (!) Gentle touch awards (second is uncleanon with 547), I have 127 Collectors (second is Lorthar with 29), Fithz Hood - 64 Snobs (second is Lord Earthfire with 38), and PePo has 17 Builders (second place is tied - both me and chemo have 10). But you must get 50/100/150 of each award, no matter how hard or luck-based it is.
3. These achievements and awards don't cover all cardset even nearly. There are achievements for Titan deck, for tower- deck, for Plague or Destruction decks, for generic facilities+ deck (both Elder and Student), but if you like to play Mage deck or discard opponent's cards - you won't get anything special.
We need something like this:
"Not a (key)word!" - win N games with no keyword cards in hand.
"Number of the Beast" - win 3 games with exactly 6 Beast cards played.
"Dungeon master" - raise your dungeon to N (15 or more) in one game.
"All will burn!" - discard N non-common cards and replace it with Searing fire.
"We'll be hasty" - play at least N (7 or more) Swift cards in one round N times.
"Infernal Pact" - destroy N enemy resources with Devil.
"Poseidon" - trigger Aqua keyword N (4 or more) times in N games.
I'm sure that anyone can throw some ideas like these.
Some interesting, fun achievements without any tiers in addition to existing can make this system a lot better than it is now. By the way, some of these examples can be added in game as awards...
And please, make a difference between Survivor and Gentle touch! Rescale Survivor achievement to 10/20/30, Gentle touch to 100/200/300 et cetera.
Any opinions, thoughts, ideas, critiqie and comments of other kind are welcome.
