All of a sudden, for no reason I can determine, the resources, tower and wall are depicted in the old arcomage cartoon fashion. What happened and how do I reverse this? I've tried changing some settings, nothing works. Thanks for any help you can give -- I can't play this way because the total resource numbers do not show in this mode.

Please send a screenshot I don't quite get were the problem is.

OK, but did you make some change yesterday that added the towers (which tend to stretch the screen so that I don't see the opponents cards without scrolling down) and the resource boxes (which hide the number of resources unless I roll over)?

Yes, we removed Minimized game view setting. The implementation wasn't done very well. We plan to add "lightweight" layout for mobile devices, which will have less pictures and will requite less space.

Why not leave minimized view as an option until you are ready to switch to an upgraded version? These cartoon boxes for facilities and resources don't add anything, and as I previously mentioned the resource numbers are obscured, at least mine are.

Because the Minimized game view setting required to have a lot of redundant code, which had to be maintenanced. Since the setting is barely used, I decided to remove it without replacement for now.

Please post a screenshot of your issue so we can see it better. The standard MArcomage interface looks correct in my desktop Opera window. If there is a display issue in the browser you use, we need to know more to be able to correct it.
EDIT: it's supposed to look something like this sample image

So far I am unable to reproduce this in Opera. But from the screenshot you sent me, it seems you are using an altered default font size (or at least, it looks like the letters in your entire browser interface are larger than mine) and this might be skewing the rendering of the interface.
Opera has a tools -> preferences -> fonts -> minimum font size, and settings for each font; you could try playing with the setting while we figure out how to correct this.
