I would enjoy an internationalization support, for example my girlfriend would play if cards were translated to Czech or Slovak. It shouldn't be very hard to implement some properties files for internationalization. Translation itself can be time consuming, but players could help. That of course means that every player sees his language version so it does not change anything to others.

I could do Dutch if I get a simple file or so where I only have to replace English for Dutch or so. I would like the thought of being able to contribute to the site this way.

General note: I don't think there's much demand for this. That may vary from language to language, but most 'internetters' can probably read English sufficiently. So Id say: only implement if it's a piece of cake. ;-)

there and configure the lenguage you want and that's all :P she can play in the lenguage she more like :D

edit: it translate the web but it have problems when loging in since it use url php instructions (the google modifies the url) maybe the webmasters can do something to correct this or to help in it... any way... i know there are a lot of webpages that translates webs and correct this problem but i don't have time to search for them now :P sorry

I was against this at first, but some guy translated all the cards into russian and send them to me. I was testing if it would be too difficult to add multilingual support for cards and it seems it will be quite easy to implement.

So it would be like this - only card effects would be translated. In the seetings the player can select the card effect language (default is english).

There are two problems:

First we need to translate the card effects.

Second problem is that each time we add new cards they need to be translated too.

It is impossible for me to translate all the cards into other languages, due to lack of time and language knowledge.

This is were players come in :)

We will support any language if some player will provide the respective card translations.

How to do that?

1. Get the cards dump file here : https://netvor.sk/trac/arcomage/browser/release/arcomage-cards.sql (you can download it in the bottom of the page - select "Original Format")

2. open it with special text editor "Notepad2" (get it here http://helppage.3dfx.sk/fendek/Notepad2.exe)

3. Translate the card effect. Please don't translate the card name, nor the keywords.

4. Send me this file

For more effectivness you can split work between more players of the same nationality. It would be shame if two people would do the same translation simultaniosly, without knowing about the other one doing the same translation.

I suggest not getting carried away, when there is no i18n support in the application. It's not even designed yet.

i8n stands for Internationalization. If I may quote:

"Due to their length, the terms are frequently abbreviated to the numeronyms i18n (where 18 stands for the number of letters between the i and the n in internationalization, a usage coined at DEC in the 1970s or 80s) and L10n respectively. The capital L on L10n helps to distinguish it from the lowercase i in i18n."

Actually it is designed and I already implemented a prototype (with the Russian language). It wasn't hard to implement and it works fine. However it will not be added to the application yet. We have to focus on more important tasks right now.

Besides, maybe more language translations will appear :)

I would not mind to do a portuguese translation.
when you think you will implement that language support notify me please. (I do not think that making a translation now will be very useful in the future with new cards and text fixes)

Below the error message click on "or you can add an exception".

Then "Add exception". Then "get certificate". Then "confirm security exception". And that's it :)

what's the maximum text length on a card?

and one last question: would it be confusing if I f.e. changed the word quarry in the card text when it's not changed in the rest of the game?
For someone who doesn't speak english the interface should be adapted as well.

I know we have users from quite a wide variety of locations. Would this be something that they would find helpful (and which might draw in more new users)?

We could probably crowdsource the translations (if we were to use the gettext library, of which there is a PHP implementation, we could pass the .pot files to volunteers for a given language, and have them do the translations at their leisure). I, for one, would be happy to do some French translations.

Then, as languages are added, there could be an option under 'settings' to change your language.

Translating all the documentation and news (and keeping them up to date) would be pretty daunting, but internationalizing the card text would be the most important thing, and that wouldn't be hard at all. A majority of cards use a small vocabulary of words that get repeated a lot ('tower', 'wall', 'attack', 'if', 'enemy', 'stock', etc.).

Would this be more trouble than it's worth? Just a random thought.
