I think it would be a good idea to move the challenges related functionality from players/profile section to challenges section. After such change all the challenge related functionality would be in one place. Also when sending new challenge you would pick the opponent name from a drop-down-list instead of looking for him in the players list. As the side-effect I could remove the limit on how many games you can player with one specific player.

Same thing can be also applied to messages related functionality.

What do you think? Will you miss this functionality in the players list, or do you welcome this change?

When looking for previous opponents, I tend to look at the avatar.

When looking for opponents I haven played against (much), I look at win / loss ratio.

If I understand your proposed redesign correctly, those things won be possible anymore.

Would a drop-down list be able to color-code to show online players? Sort them in order of level? If not, I'd much prefer the more visible style we have going now. I wouldn't want to slog through an alphabetized, monochrome, text-only list.

I like the idea of being able to play more than two games at a time with individual players.

Good points. I think I'll keep the current design. I can also add proposed features without removing the old ones.

Game limit for specific players is not so much dependent on these features, so I could remove it, since number of games is already limited by game slots. However, note that if I remove this limitation someone can join 10 of your games you hosted for example. This can block your slots in some situations.

I think it's wise to keep it capped, though the cap may be a bigger number.

the current design is better than a list. and perhaps limit the games with one player to 3?

The challenge mechanism is good as it is now. Maybe the challenge notification and the challenges panel could be moved to the Games section.

One solution for this, if easily done, is to raise the limit only for challenged games. So for example if X player hosts 5 games, Y player can only join one and if Y wants to play another concurrent game with X, he/she would have to send a challenge. Slots are counted as it is now, so if X have no free slots, Y cannot send a challenge.

I don't really get why it's a bad thing to be able to play an unlimited number of games at once with one person...
Progressor on 12:46, 4. Jun, 2010
It is due to the host game feature. If you use this to create lots of games, you don't control who answers. So, it might be someone here for the first and last time, blocking all those slots for 3 weeks.

Making it impossible to accept hosted games if you already have a game against that person, but possible to directly challenge that person, would avoid the above problem. (Which is the same dimitris proposes, I believe.)
